CHLOE SHELTON, ASSOCIATE PRODUCER, EDITOR and Poster Design for "Libby" for Caitlin McAvoy and Lightship Productions
Born in 1913, Libby Custer saw the rise of the Model T, the invention of television, and was 56 years old when man landed on the moon. Through the lens of her great, great niece - exactly 80 years her junior - we discover how the 105-year-old woman became a living legend in her community. As the first woman leader in countless arenas, pioneer of the American turkey industry, and the oldest person in the Shenandoah Valley to receive a speeding ticket, we discover what it truly means to “Get up, Dress up, and Show up.”
This beautiful documentary was a pleasure to edit! I was honored and thrilled to be asked by Director, Caitlin McAvoy to sort through the hours and hours of footage she and her Lightship Productions film crew had gathered in 2018. I spent over a year watching and rewatching and getting to know and love Libby Custer and her family and friends who looked up to her in Rockingham County, VA. It was truly a journey that I'm so happy I was able to take. I was invited to attend the family premiere in 2021 in Harrisonburg and I happily went, but first I made sure that I toured all of the special locations around the county that were so important to Libby. Although my part in this story came after the footage was shot, it became a film that I love and am so proud to share!
